The Pilaster shelf was designed in 1989 by John Kandell for Källemo. The idea for Pilaster, to stack books horizontally, came to John Kandell one night in his living room as he looked at the piles of books on the floor and his full bookshelves. The shape of the shelf was communicated over the phone in a conversation with Källemo's founder Sven Lundh – no drawing was needed.
Pilaster is made of solid oak or birch. Oiled, soaped, stained, or painted.
