The Reintroduction of Gunnar Asplund's GA-1 & GA-2
In February 2024, Källemo reintroduced the GA-1 chair and the GA-2 armchair by Gunnar Asplund, originally designed for the boardroom of the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design (now Svensk Form) at Nybrogatan 7 in 1931.
At its inception, and again in 1988 when Källemo acquired the rights from the Asplund family, the GA-1 chair was challenging to produce in anything other than small series. In 2024, Källemo overcame this challenge with new 3D printing technology.
Combining high technology with traditional craftsmanship is not unfamiliar to Källemo. However, this marked the first time the company used 3D printing for metal components in ongoing furniture production.
Källemo’s CEO, Karin Lundh, explains the decision to reintroduce these models:
“The reason we have truly wanted and worked to find production solutions for these models is because they are just as relevant today as when they were designed. Relevant based on the concept that guides us in our work and choice of models; that they “stand the wear of the eye” as my father Sven Lundh, Källemo’s founder, formulated it.”
Since the reintroduction in 2024, both the GA-1 chair and the GA-2 armchair are part of Källemo's continuous collection. More information about the models can be found via the following links: GA-1 Chair and GA-2 Armchair.
